Matsuri

One of the pleasures of Matsuri, an izakaya in Tamatsukuri, is being able to enjoy chicken in a different way with each dish. The menu includes charcoal-grilled Satsuma chicken thigh, seared thigh, salt-grilled chicken, and charcoal-grilled chicken skin and seseri (the neck meat), also served with ponzu. One diner singled out the chicken sashimi platter as a recommended dish; another noted that the mixed platter comes in a choice of 4 or 6 varieties, and that yakitori can be ordered one skewer at a time. That makes it easy for solo diners to try a few different things and choose the skewers that catch their eye.

There are plenty of options beyond chicken, too. Diners have mentioned ordering a sashimi platter, a small hot pot of beef offal, fried offal tempura and fried chicken—giving a group sharing the table plenty to choose from. The menu also features aubergine baked with meat sauce, goya champuru (a stir-fry with bitter melon), Matsuri Steak made with Japanese yam, and Shanghai-style fried noodles. Alongside the charcoal-grilled and fried dishes, there are choices to round out a meal. Other diners have been drawn to the seven-skewer yakitori platter, chicken sashimi platter and small beef offal hot pot. Sharing a few dishes makes it easy to decide what to order next.

Drinks listed on the menu include draft and bottled beer, assorted sour cocktails and fresh sours. One diner found the food and drinks selection extensive. You could start with a chicken dish and a drink of your choice, then add sashimi or a small hot pot to broaden the meal. Some diners have reported that the restaurant was full or that reservations were arriving one after another, so booking is an option if you are planning dinner with a group.
